In March 2016, the Beaver Island Community School Robotics Team announced its rookie-year robot and traveled to the Standish qualifying event for its first global FIRST Robotics Competition matches. The team later reported ranking 46th among more than 400 Michigan teams, qualifying for the FIRST World Championship, and finishing 54th in the Carson division at the world event. The team described community help with welding, field pieces, and materials.
