In January 2016, Beaver Island residents and the Charlevoix County Commission on Aging held a special meeting about senior services. Subsequent forum posts reported that the island’s in-home caregiver had been reduced to part-time and that arthritis exercise classes had been reduced from three sessions per week to one. Churches and community locations distributed a form letter asking the Charlevoix County Board of Commissioners to preserve or restore adequate, year-round services for island residents.
