Summary
The March 1990 Beaver Beacon published Kevin and Linda McDonough’s appeal for support for Children’s Committee 10, a planned summer program that would bring one Catholic and one Protestant child from Northern Ireland to live with a host family for approximately six weeks. A May follow-up thanked the community for its support and donations. The August issue reports that Andrew Darcy and Jim Barr arrived July 4, stayed with the McDonough family, and planned to leave August 17 after fishing, swimming, basketball, and regional trips. A September thank-you reports their safe return home and reproduces letters from Jim and Andrew’s mother describing the lasting value of the visit.
Evidence limits
The March and May items are appeals and schedule notices; the August item is a retrospective newspaper account of the visit. The September letters are family correspondence reproduced by the newspaper rather than independent travel records. The sources do not establish the program’s full funding or all participating families.
