Summary

The March 1997 Beaver Beacon introduced the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce’s officers and directors: Eric Hodgson, Bill Palladino, Gale Seger, Linda Roath, Mike Bailey, Keith Pintler, Rich Gillespie, and Jon Bonadeo. The notice also described a March 17 Ireland raffle drawing and planned meetings with Chamber members and non-members.

Evidence limits

This is a published leadership notice, not the Chamber’s minutes, bylaws, or membership directory.

The April follow-up reports the Ireland raffle’s successful close, Eric and Dana Hodgson’s winning trip, a nearly completed directory, a planned welcome sign near the Boat Company dock, and winter office activity totaling 160 calls, 203 mailings, and six visitors. The May report records a May 10 Gala at the Old Rectory, a completed 1997 calendar, 185 inquiries, and 226 literature packages handled despite the winter.

The December update announces two additional Chamber raffles, including a December 19 local getaway drawing and a $2,000 travel-voucher drawing scheduled for March 17, 1998. It also says two Columbus cruises were booked for 1998 and thanks the island volunteers who helped welcome German cruise visitors.

The June 1998 update thanks the donors and contributors who made the May Gala successful, announces a spring getaway raffle with airfare, Petoskey lodging, and meals, gives summer office hours, previews changed July 4 festivities, and thanks Keith Pintler for his Chamber service.

The July column lists the Chamber board and staff and thanks outgoing office manager Marge Peters for organizing the cruise-ship visit, office work, July 4 celebrations, Casino Nights, Sunset Cruises, get-away weekends, and raffles. It also previews Casino Night and the Sunset Cruise as upcoming summer activities.

The August column reports 65 Chamber members, 309 incoming calls, 251 visitors, 111 mailing requests, and 18 web-site referrals during the reported periods. It also reviews the successful relocated July 4 carnival and fireworks and previews the July 31 Casino Night and August 15 Sunset Cruise.

The September column reports continued visitor activity, Shawna Smith’s work as office manager, a poorly attended July Casino Night, a successful August 15 Sunset Cruise, and planning for two September visits by the cruise ship Columbus.
