Summary

The September 2006 issue previewed the second Beaver Island Celtic Games for September 16, and the October issue reported the outcome. About a dozen athletes competed before roughly 150 spectators. Ken Crum won the stone toss, hammer throw, and weight event; Bill Gordon won the caber toss; and Troy Drebenstedt carried the 210-pound stone 300 feet.

Evidence limits

The September account is a preview; attendance and results come from the October follow-up report and remain newspaper-reported measurements.

Sources

  1. The Chamber announced the September 16 event, identified it as the second annual games, described its transition into a Chamber event, and gave the venue, hours, food, and participating pipes-and-drums group. The newspaper preview and post-event report remain stronger for attendance and results.

  2. Beaver Beacon, September 2006, "Mark Your Calendars for the Celtic Games."
Previews 16 Scottish and Irish strongmen competing in seven traditional strength events, including stone, weight, hammer, sheaf, caber, and audience-participation events; the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce hosts the second annual games. 6. A participant seeking digital photographs identifies the September 15–16 games and asks for images of pipers and dancers at the associated venues. This is a post-event community request, useful corroboration that the event and related programming occurred, but it does not provide the photographs or alter the newspaper results.
