Summary
The October 2006 Beaver Beacon reported that phragmites had been found at multiple Beaver Island shoreline locations, with the largest described growth along Cable Bay. BIPOA had contacted more than 200 shoreline owners and was coordinating with the DNR, DEQ, and certified aquatic-weed contractors while owners manually removed small patches and isolated seed plumes.
The report emphasized that control depended on precise site identification, written owner permission, wetland permits, and multi-owner coordination. It also warned that glyphosate products were not approved for wetlands or near water except under applicable regulations and licensed application.
