Summary
The September 2002 Beaver Beacon reprinted an 1879 Petoskey Record account of a schooner trip to the Beaver Islands. The account describes Beaver Harbor, St. James, lighthouses, Mormon-era sites, fishing and farming, Island and neighboring-island communities, and contemporary population estimates.
Evidence limits
This record describes a later newspaper reprint; the 1879 account’s original issue and every historical assertion in it require separate source criticism.
