Summary

The January 1998 Beaver Beacon announced a new website at http://www.beaver-island.com. It envisioned a web-based “space-BEACON” with Island news, maps, business and service information, arts and crafts, history, advertising, public-service announcements, and reader feedback.

The April issue reports that Beaver Island Realty had joined the Island’s online presence, that businesses were listed on both Chamber and Beacon sites, and that the Beacon site was being expanded with more news and Historical Society material.

The June issue reports that the Beacon site was continuing to add news and Historical Society history, and invited local businesses to develop their own Internet sites.

The July issue continues to promote the Beacon’s Internet presence and offers Island businesses a page under the Beaver-Island.com domain.

Evidence limits

The announcements describe planned and reported website content; they do not establish a complete deployment history, traffic, or that every proposed section was live at launch.
