A bow-on photograph of the screw steamer Erie L. Hackley, her hull lettered “ERIE L. HACKLEY” and a cabin banner reading “MANITOU ISLAND’S ROUTE.” Two men stand on deck; U.S. flags fly at bow and stern. Wikimedia Commons dates the print to before 1902 and captions it as the vessel “before she was sold to the Fish Creek Transportation Co.” — the 1903 Green Bay owner under which she foundered off Green Island. The “Manitou Island’s Route” banner records an earlier or concurrent run than the Charlevoix–Beaver Island mail contract this archive’s vessel record otherwise documents.
